Beinn Mhòr View
“Beinn Mhòr” translates to “big mountain” in Gaelic. Beinn Mhor mountain is visible in the distance when sitting at the dining table admiring the spectacular views.
The property was formally a NHS dental clinic that had been vacant for some time. It was a badly deteriorated seventy-year-old brick-built non-domestic property. We took much time and care planning the internal layout in order to maximise the use of the internal floor space. On approach, the property appears similar to that of its former life but once within this building it’s a completely new A-rated modern property. It maximizes the wonderful views of boats moored in the sea to the north whilst maintaining a high degree of privacy from the adjacent properties.
The approach we took on this project was to recognize the embodied energy consumed in creating this building, albeit seventy years ago. By doing this we worked with this old building’s structure instead of working against it. As a result of this design approach, a new modern building now lives within the old.
We hope this building will be a positive experience for everyone that comes to observe the rugged Scottish landscape whilst staying in the comforts of a new contemporary modern property.
